Assignment 0 - Pre-lesson

Using the videos under the resource tabs, watch the videos and in a google doc jot some notes down about Advent. Write a reflection paper about what you knew about Advent and what you learned about Advent.

Assignment 1 - Lesson One

Part One: With your assigned partner(s) review pages 48 - 51. and answer the following questions:

What is the Advent Season?
What colours are associated with Advent?
What does the colour purple represent?
What are the colours of the candles?
What do the candles represent?
What are God's people preparing for during advent?
What season marks the new year for the church?

Part Two:

Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability with your assigned partner

What does it mean to start over?

Using photoshop or another drawing program, draw a picture of something you will do to start over during Advent.

Using the Jesse tree and the ornaments provided, you are to create a boat which represents Noah.

Using google classroom submit a short reflection on the Jesse Tree and what it represents.

Part Three:

Using google classrooms open the document titled Lesson one Day Three. In this document, you will come up with ideas on what you can do for others during Advent. For example, open the door, share a toy, play with a new friend. Then create a digital Calendar when you will do each of these ideas.

As you complete these ideas on each day create a reflection using a google doc of how this task went, what would change, and what you learned.

What was God's promise to Abraham? Create your Ornament for Abraham and hang it on your tree.

Part Four:

Answer the following questions in a google doc with your assigned partner:

What does hope mean?

Read pages 52 - 55

What are Isaac and Mary looking at?
Why does Ms. Santos ask what Isaac and Mary are thinking about?
Why do you think they are thinking about hope?
Why do you think the Advent wreath is a symbol of hope?
What does Mary think hope is like?
How do you think the first Advent candle can help us remember the way to Bethlehem?
Why do you think we only light one new candle each week?
How is an Advent wreath different from the wreath we hang on our door?
What do the four candles represent?

Part Five:

Using Voice Thread with your assigned partner create a short presentation about the Jesse Tree and what the ornaments represent. As well as a thread answer how the Jesse ties back to Advent. When done please email the link to your VoiceThread to your teacher.
